Tigers, Seagulls, Dunas head Koiari rugby league ladder
By JACK AMI
KOIARI Rugby League’s unbeaten team Rux Tigers are leading the competition after five rounds.
Tigers, who have won two and drew three matches, are equal on seven points with Sogeri Seagulls and Fasi Dunas, who have won three, drew one and lost one each.
Last weekend’s thriller of a game between Tigers and Dunas ended with 10-10 deadlock. Both sides had scoring opportunities but silly errors like dropped balls and poor executions denied them points.
The match was described as one of the best — fast, strong and aggressive but trouble-free and enjoyed by both sides.
In other games, Seagulls thrashed Dona Minas 28-6, Country Brothers stopped Ice Panthers 8-4, Border Eagles beat 14-Mile Keras 6-0.
PNG Hunters Adam Korave, Bland Abavu, former Kumul Josiah Abavu, Collin Dixie, Edene Gebby and Junior Belo are frequent visitors to the competition games.
These elite players’ presence boosts the morale of the prospective talent in Koiari. The Koiari Rugby League is a feeder league to the Dobo Warriors in the Port Moresby Rugby League competition.
Chairman Tamati Minama appealed to team managements to settle their full players registration fees of K50 each.
Minama said that all the club managements were aware that the Papua New Guinea Rugby League deadline was set for May 31.
He said currently only fully registered players were playing due to safety concerns for players in the absence of insurance and medical cover. Minama said only registered players would be selected for the training squad for the Southern Zone Trials in Popondetta.
