Tigers snare Moni
The National, Thursday 29th March 2012
SNAX Tigers have acquired the services of Kumul and Mt Hagen Eagles front man George Moni for the 2012 Digicel Cup challenge this season.
Also joining Moni in Tigers’ camp for this season is Structural Bridging Systems Mendi Muruks elusive back liner Travis Waninara.
Moni has been slotted into the Tigers line-up and he will be playing a leading role up front and sharing his experiences with the young cubs.
Waninara returns the favour as being a by-product of Lae rugby league and brings some experience.
Moni will partner other Kumuls’ teammates and the Tigers’ seasonal campaigners Sydney Fred and Mark Mexico while Waninara will link up well with five-eighth Peter Peala and school boys’ Kingston Pise and Michael Gawi.
Their decision to team up with the Tigers is a plus for Steve Malum-coach side who believes it will lift the young cubs that need motivation and leadership in the paddock.
For Moni, a key member of the Eagles last season has decided to take the journey down the Highlands Highway into the capital of Morobe to join the Tigers – a choice which he made after considering all options between his home team and the Tigers.
The 2012 Snax Tigers squad will see a lot of school boys and players from the rural competition. The promising talents will be given an opportunity to experience football at a high level like the Digicel Cup.
Malum said most of the players had been sidelined on disciplinary grounds.
They will have to work their way into the side.
Franchise owner Ian Chow was pleased with the performance of the new faces against the Lahanis in Goroka a fortnight ago, and in Lae, against the TNA Lions.
The full squad will be announced shortly.
