Tigers to take on West Eagles

Sports

The North Waigani Royals Tigers will take on the might of the West Eagles in the Port Moresby AFL Premiership Cup at the Colts Oval on Sunday.
The match should get a lot of attention, with the Tigers’ John and Max Lavai leading the policemen from the Tokam and Bagita Police Barracks in Waigani.
The brothers were part of the successful PNG Mosquitoes who won the back-to-back AFL International Cup in Melbourne last year.
Their experience should put them in good stead, with support from young Langston Winduo to counter the Eagles attack.
The Eagles will be missing the services of fullback Alois Mondo, suffered a broken arm in their clash against the Gerehu Magpies two weeks ago.
But they still have a lot of depth in the likes of Raymond Vogae, Greg Ekari, Jeffery Namete, Naso Kabura, Reagan Naipao, Billy Vele Jr, Damien Kani and the Kase cousins, Jeremy and Dunstan, to maintain their unbeaten run.
The Koboni and Kokofas match tomorrow is expected to go down to the wire, with the lizards’ Sonny Yogomin, Bena Michael, Neil Malabag and John Vincent pitted against the Demons’ Mosquito stalwarts Paul Philip, Brendan Beno, Alphonse Jambarufo and Michael Macca.
Rugby Union convert Major Kautu is expected to feature prominently in the forward line for Koboni, with support from Mosquito youngsters Hapeo Bobogi and Douglas Lai Jr to set the scoreboard alight.
Demons’ ruckman Nason Benjamin seems unbeatable in aerial contests and this is where the Kokofas coaches will think hard to find someone to match the New Irelander.
In the other matches, Bomana Cats should have no problem accounting for the Magpies tomorrow while Amua Pirika’s Gereka Bombers will struggle against Lamana Dockers on Sunday.
