THE Lae Snax Tigers rugby league team donated 50 show bags and 10 cartons of Hardman biscuits to sick children at the Mt Hagen provincial hospital to celebrate the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League’s National Health Day last Thursday.
Children admitted at the children ward were very thankful to the rugby league team and its franchise owner Lae Biscuits for the kind donations.
The rugby league team under the PNGRFL calendar on national health day have surprised the patients and staffs at the hospital.
The team were accompanied to the hospital by head coach Stanley Tepend, the company’s highlands region staff comprising of regional sales manager John Naba and sales representative James Mininga.
Tepend said the team was happy to come and support the children.
Tepend said this support was to help the sick children and their parents and carers.
The show bags contained biscuits, a 2018 calendar and fruit juice, valued at K3000, for the sick children.
“This is a national health day under the rugby league calendar and Lae Biscuits is proud to come on board to support these sick kids,” Naba said.
“Our mind and thoughts are with you and we hope that with these gifts you will get well soon.”
The Tigers decided to take time off their schedule to visit the hospital while they were in town ahead of yesterday’s Digicel Cup round 8 fixture against the Chimbu Warriors which they won 40-10.
Children’s ward head nurse Cathy Hagari thanked the Tigers and the Lae Biscuit Company for the kind donations.
She said the ward and its patients were pleasantly surprised when the players came in bearing gifts.
Nurse Hagari said the gifts brought smiles to the children and was a treat for them as they recover from their illnesses.
“These gifts from the Lae Snax Tigers and Lae Biscuit Company will help the sick children in this ward,” Hagari said.
“It was unexpected but on behalf of the ward and hospital I would like to thank Lae biscuits for helping these sick children,” Hagari said.
