“TIME means service” must be the public service motto where in business “time means money”, as acting district administrator, East New Britain, Ekonia Walom said.
The newly-appointed acting administrator made the remarks in Kokopo during a general district meeting with district administration staff of the four local level government areas of Raluana, Duke of York, Bitapaka and Kokopo-Vunamami Urban.
Also present in the meeting were head teachers of primary and elementary schools in the district and heads of health facilities.
He said:  “I expect everyone to be in office on time and for the government property and assets to be respected and used in such a way that will benefit the people.”
Walom said he would personally deal with officers found breaking the public services code of conduct, such as drinking while in government vehicles.
He said he would be tough as he aimed to restore the district’s credibility and regain the confidence of the people.
“As an administrative head, I expect to see an improved performance from all public servants,” he said.
Walom said the people of Kokopo deserved and urged the province’s public servants to work as a team to help move their districts forward.
Walom recently took up the district administrator’s position from deputy district administrator Chanel Tade who had acted in the position for more than a year.
