Time to alleviate poverty
The National, Wednesday 18th April 2012
THE recommendations made at the National Youth Commission Symposium at DWU (The National, April 16) will no doubt alleviate poverty and boost our economic growth.
According to Fr Jan Czuba, the government has no clear policies to connect the higher education with the labour market.
Our universities have just produced thousands of high profile graduates but where would they end up if there is no policy to safeguard their career goals?
The former Somare regime had fallen short of drawing stringent policies to lower the high unemployment rate.
We welcome the acting youth commissioner’s plans to overhaul the outdated National Youth Council Act and come up with new strategic plans.
Poverty will be reduced when we empower our youths by providing them with employment and involve them in the decision-making process.
Our youths form a major component of the country’s seven million people.
