Time to introduce ID cards

Letters, Normal

I REFER to your report yesterday “Govt keen on changes in electoral roll”.
I disagree with the plan to be put forward by the Electoral Commission to improve the electoral roll.
What we need is a good database.
The only and best way to do that is to register every Papua New Guinean and issue national identity cards (ID).
ID cards are to be used not only as a personal identity for voting but other use as well such as when applying for passport, driving licence, opening of bank accounts, etc.
Before a person is allowed to vote, he or she must produce their ID cards.
With ID cards, authorities can also track law breakers and prevent them from leaving the country legally.
Therefore, it is important to issue everyone in PNG with an ID card.
