AFTER 39 years of working in the Department of Agriculture and Livestock (DAL), assets manager Timothy Dadi is switching to running his coffee company and coffee co-operative society.
Dadi from Northern, planned his retirement in 2018 and set up the Hata Farmers Coffee Ltd and Hata Farmers Cooperative society in his native Sohe district.
“It was in my exit plan since 2018, when I went to the village on leave,” he said.
Dadi is now the executive director of Hata Farmers Coffee Ltd and deputy chairman of the Hata Farmers Cooperative Society.
“Our first shipment went to Lae, we sent about 1,000kg of coffee bags and this is our third year in operation and we are trying to send a container down to Melbourne, with assistance from Central Mamina Coffee Ltd, which has been assisting us with advice and marketing.”
Dadi said the company’s main product was branded as Kokoda Coffee and came in three sizes – 250g, 300g and 500g – roasted coffee beans and ground coffee and were yet to be on the domestic market in supermarkets, service stations, convenience stores and coffee shops.
The father of four, was part of 22 DAL retirees who were hosted at a farewell reception in Port Moresby on Monday.
“When I go back, I will continue to work on the coffee with the farmers and help the village people.”
