Middle distance runner Tuna Tine left Port Moresby on Sunday afternoon for the United States, where she will join her teammate Esther Boram at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell.
Tine, who completed her Grade 12 at AOG Christian Academy in Lae last year, has a scholarship to run cross country for the institute in the national junior college programme.
“Tuna is only 21 years old but already has a lot of international experience,” Athletics Papua New Guinea president Tony Green said in a statement.
“Her humble nature makes her a great role model for younger athletes and she is fully deserving of this wonderful opportunity.”
Tine is expected to arrive in Roswell today.
