Tip of the iceberg

Letters

THE burning of the aircraft in Southern Highlands is just the tip of the iceberg.
I for one do not believe that the people are to be blamed. Their actions is reactionary to the leadership they have and leaves a lot to be desired on the national front.
As the saying goes, “For one to lead others he must take care of his backyard first”.
This is a classic case to the contrary and so I call for the whole Southern Highlands parliamentary leadership, including the prime minister, to take serious stock of their actions and deal with the Southern Highlands issues head-on, using the Melanesian way rather than bringing in the security forces to terrorise our good citizens.
Southern Highlands and Papua New Guinea do not need more guns to be subjective to the rule of law, they just need leaders who are honest, transparent and, above all, morally and ethically sound.
These high standards in a leader’s life will earn people’s respect, trust and confidence and thereby arrest much of the ills in society.
For now, Southern Highlands needs its leaders to come clean with them so together they can forge the new way forward.
