PAPUA New Guinea is ready to deliver the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings next year and all preparations are well underway, Minister Justin Tkatchenko says.
Taktchenko told reporters in Parliament on Friday that having learnt from the Vietnam experience, PNG would manage it well next year.
“I’m confident that we will deliver Apec the Pacific way to all the world leaders who have assured us that they are excited to come to PNG,” he said.
“What I saw in Da Nang, we can easily achieve or do even better here in Port Moresby in 2018.
“In respect to the facilities, culture and tradition and visitations and what they had we have here and we can do even better.”
Tkatchenko said with the purpose-built Apec Haus that would set a new standard as good as Da Nanga or even better, and even the other countries that had hosted Apec before.
He said the Apec Haus would host the leaders’ summit, many of the important meetings and would be the centre of the attention for the whole of Apec.
“I was very privileged to speak to most of the world leaders and foreign affairs ministers. I must say not one world leader or foreign minister said they were not coming. They were all looking forward in being here in November in 2018.”
