SPORTS and Tourism Minister Justin Tkatchenko expressed his gratitude with the partnership struck up between Digicel and the National Broadcasting Commission to air NRL matches.

Tkatchenko described the partnership as a public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement that was very important to the people of this country because it would give back something to the public.

“Digicel Play and NBC coming together to broadcast the greatest game of all, rugby league, to the people of PNG is an example of PPP arrangement,” he said.

“The NRL season is about to start; I believe Digicel PNG has impressed their valued customers in the communities to get access to watch NRL live on television in partnership with NBC.

“NBC will cover the places where Digicel Play cannot reach. Rugby league in PNG is the leading sport and our people love it.”

The minister said this was what the Government would like to see at the end of the day.

“We want to see the private sector coming on board, working with government entities to support the programme.

“Sports is one thing that unites our nation, country and unites the Pacific through the Pacific Games and a partnership like this is helpful,” he said.
