‘Toilet’ fee got NCD approval: School
By HELEN TARAWA
WARDSTRIP Elementary School head teacher Nancy Raga says the National Capital District education board has approved project fees to be collected for the school’s new toilets.
She said the K20 per child collected last year was for general maintenance and not the toilets as interpreted by some parents.
NCD education officials yesterday confirmed receipt of the school’s proposal.
According to the officials given the nature of the situation, approval was given for the project to be implemented before term two.
The officials explained that the project should be headed by the board of management and parents and citizens’ committee.
The head teacher would only play an administrative role in supporting the project, the officials said.
They said this also applied to all elementary and primary schools in the city and proper processes should be followed.
It is understood that the toilets were quite old and their conditions forced the city’s health authority to condemn them which forced the school to shut last week.
The school has been given approval by NCD education to collect the K100 project fee for the toilets.
“I want my students to get back to school on time, that’s why I’m pushing for this project,” Raga said.
Education division assistant secretary Sam Lora said projects in schools throughout NCD should be endorsed by the parents, board of management and the education division.
There are about 1600 students in the school and a K100 per student will see about K160,000 raised.
