PUMA Energy country general manager and director Hulala Tokome says the price of fuel is the lowest it has been in PNG for over a decade.
Tokome said this when responding to queries from The National that the relaxing of restrictions due to state of emergency (SOE) had seen a slight increase in demand even though prices were low due to world oil prices.
“We continue to produce quality fuel at the refinery in continuing to energise PNG,” he said.
“Along with our refinery, we have been able to keep the country whole during the SOE and continue to do so.”
He said they did not have any issues in terms of fuel supply or stock out issues in country. “We realised a significant drop in demand during the Covid-19, especially with Jet A1 fuel as we manufacture and supply 100 per cent of the fuel from our refinery on PNG for aircrafts to fly,” he said.
“Lower prices do surely help a lot and consumers as well as businesses will surely appreciate the significant drop in fuel prices
“I am sure our SMEs, including bus and taxi operators will welcome these significant price decrease as well.
We have not had any issues in terms of fuel supply or stock out issues in country.”
Tokome also said Puma Energy remained committed to collaborating with its partners such as SMEs and expected to be working with 500 home-grown reseller SME businesses by the mid-next year.
“We’ve been taking proactive steps to respond to recent developments following the state of emergency by working with the Government, helping local communities, providing support to field hospitals and supporting the St John Ambulance service as they face the challenges of the pandemic,” he said.
Tokome also thanked the Puma Energy team for its hard work and commitment to providing essential services and energising communities during the challenging time.
