WITH elections winding down, Morobe provincial administrator Kemasang Tomala has applauded public servants for their part in ensuring it was completed on time and without much interruption.
Tomala said the office of the provincial administrator stood committed to working with all elected MPs as well as the regional MP to ensure effective delivery of services to all people.
Tomala, was speaking at the declaration of Lae open member-elect and Morobe’s first female parliamentarian, Loujaya Toni on Sunday afternoon at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Indoor Stadium.
He thanked MPs who lost their seats, saying they had done well and contributed immensely to the province during their term.
He thanked all candidates who had made personal sacrifices to run for a seat in parliament.
Morobe provincial police commander David Warap said they were closely monitoring reports of election-related fights in the Morobe Patrol Post area.
Special adviser for planning Tony Ase confirmed there was a fight between supporters of two candidates at Mou village.
He said public servants in the area, including the LLG manager and health workers had been threatened by the disputing villagers.
Villagers claimed administration staff had a hand in manipulating the outcome of the Huon-Gulf open seat, which saw Ross Seymour declared winner last Friday.
Warap said he was ready to move extra police into the area as soon as he got word from policemen on the ground. He is calling on people in Bulolo, Finschhafen and Menyamya to keep calm and not to resort to violence over election matters.
