Tona takes on new role

PAPUA New Guinea’s female taekwando champion Theresa Tona is juggling her career with administrative duties. 

The Olympian from Bereina is now the treasurer for the Central Taekwondo Federation.

She was elected at meeting a on Monday to appoint executives for the PNG Games in Lae.

The meeting was held at the Sir John Guise Indoor complex.

The federation will be led by Scott Vavine; the secretary is Lawrence Kila from Visigo Taekwondo (TKD) in Rigo; John Aisi from Vanapa TKD, Socay is team manager; Anton Aitsi is head coach representing Tona’s club, Extreme TKD based in Hohola; the assistant coach is Jack Karo Jr representing Nanivi TKD in Hula. Assistant national coach Marceline Nima is part of the team.

Karo said Central had not prepared well in the past due to last minute arrangements. 

“Central’s preformance  in Kokopo was poor. That’s why starting early in preparations is a must,” Karo Jr said.

The PNG Games is in Lae in November this year.
