BUSINESS houses and people involved in small to medium enterprises have been urged to make use of the new Bank of South Pacific branch in Banz, Jiwaka.

Provincial police commander Chief Supt Joseph Tondop urged people not to take large cash and travel out of the province to do their banking.

Tondop said people should instead make use of the new banking services provided in town last week to serve people of Jiwaka.

He said people and business houses would take risks if they travelled out to do their banking.

Tondop made the remark after the manager of Waghi Klos in Banz was robbed last week along Highlands Highway near Mt Hagen while on his way to do banking there.

Tondop said K28,444 was stolen by armed criminals on the road and Banz police were investigating it.

“The manager normally seeks police escort every time in the past when travelling out of Banz into Mt Hagen for banking but this time, the manager travelled by himself when he was held up and robbed,” he said.

Tondop said BSP opened its new branch last week in Banz with 10 officers.

“I appeal to the people to develop saving culture and start saving their money in the bank,” he said.

Tondop said new banking and financial services would boost the local economy and the people should use these services.

He also urged the people to look after the bank and its staff so that will benefit them.
