THE Port Moresby Netball Association’s three top sides take on the bottom teams in the competition at the Rita Flynn Indoor Complex tomorrow.
Sparrows, Telstars and Mermaids have started their seasons strongly and face Paramana, Rebels and Aroma Coast Plus all of whom are either in rebuilding phases or yet to pick up their form in 2019. Paramana and Rebels have lost a host of experienced players and talent and are rebuilding their squads from the ground up with a mostly young crop of players who have been promoted to the premiers from the Under-21s and reserve grades.
Meanwhile, former PNG Pepes assistant coach Margaret Opina, who is in charge of Veupunama, is finally seeing the fruits of her labour as the club that had taken a group of young players into the top grade two seasons ago has added the to its roster and become an improved unit this year.
This weekend fixtures sees the Mermaids taking on a depleted Paramana outfit at midday.
In the other premier clash, Telstars face off against the Rebels at 1.30pm in a game which the women in red are expected to win however Rebels, who have shown promise in spots throughout the opening three rounds of competition, could spring a surprise on the top three side.
In the day’s main fixture at 3pm, Sparrows should find the going easy against the AC Plus.
Veupunama are on the bye.
