SUPPORTERS have been asked to respect the ballot results and not cause unnecessary problems.
Morobe provincial police commander David Warap said there were reports of supporters disputing all manner of election-related matters throughout the province.
He appealed to them to refrain from causing trouble and urged losing candidates to go to court to air their grievances.
“We should all respect the results that have come through a democratic process and for villagers, and especially relatives, to fight among themselves is unnecessary,” he said.
He added there could only be one winner and that had to be respected and accepted.
Warap said police and other security personnel at the polling and counting stations were there to maintain a peaceful and safe environment for the public and all concerned.
There have been reports of skirmishes between supporters of rival candidates in Menyamya, Bulolo, Finschhafen and Tewai-Siassi.
