RUMOURS about police being involved in the killing of a man in Tabubil is untrue, North Fly police commander Silva Sika said.
“The incident happened a week ago but it has nothing to do with the police,” he said.
“A man from one of the mining villages died and the matter was reported to the police.”
Sika said police went to the hospital to confirm the incident and get the doctors reports after the matter was reported.
“The doctor’s report shows otherwise that there were no object and force used on the deceased,” he said.
“The investigation is currently ongoing but the community there are coming up with fabricated stories.”
He appealed to the community to provide evidence that would indicated that police were involved in the killing.
“On Friday last week, people came in big numbers to the Tabubil White House, the main administration office of Ok Tedi, to air their grievances and demand the mine to pay them,” Sika said.
“I happened to be on the ground on that morning and I had to disperse everybody.
“I appealed to the people who are the ring leaders to come forward and provide evidence,” Sika said.
He said no one had come forward to provide evidence.
“I have told my officers that if the investigation finds that what the people are saying is false, we will arrest those people who are fabricating these stories.”
