POLICE are investigating why four armed officers have been providing security services for two logging companies.
The discovery was made by assistant police commissioner Francis Tokura, who was visiting schools in the National Capital District and Central to talk to students about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
Police said Tokura, the police commander in NCD and Central, came across four regular police officers – three reservists and one auxiliary officer – armed with two shotguns and an M16 rifle belonging to the police force.
Police said they were providing services for two logging companies.
“Instead of doing their duty in NCD/Central, they got themselves engaged as private security bodyguards delivering services in protecting these logging companies,” a police spokesman said last night.
The four policemen were disarmed and were advised to report to Tokura today.
Police Commissioner Tom Kulunga issued a directive when he took up office that no policeman should get involved in providing private security services to any logging firms.
“The order is still there,” the spokesman said.
Tokura was invited by the schools in the NCD and Central  to address issues affecting youth and schoolchildren.
He visited schools in Kwikila, Muriguna and Kupiano.
