POLICE have urged people in Lae city to report any officers abusing government vehicles.

Lae metropolitan commander Supt Iven Lakatani said this while receiving six new vehicles from Morobe Governor Kelly Naru.

He told the people gathered at the Niall oval that they were the “eyes and ears” of the police force and should report any officers misusing police vehicles.

“These vehicles are your vehicles,” Lakatani told the crowd.

“We are just custodians. So if you see police officers abusing these vehicles report them to my office.”

Naru bought the six 10-seater vehicles from the provincial funds and gave it to the police to address the city’s law and order problems.

Lakatani assured the city residents who came to witness the event that police would improve on their surveillance and response time to complaints now that they have more vehicles.

“These vehicles are timely and will resolve our mobility problems,” he said.
