NORTHERN provincial police commander Chief Inspector Lincoln Gerari has been suspended over allegations of a sorcery-related killing and assault.
Gerari confirmed with The National yesterday that he had been sidelined and would allow the investigation to proceed.
The office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations said Gerari was suspended on Monday this week for 21 days pending investigations into the allegations.
It is alleged that Gerari, who had been suffering from a swollen feet for a long time, had sent two police officers to his village in the North Coast of Northern.
The officers allegedly assaulted two men they suspected of practising sorcery on Gerari. One died and the other is in a critical condition.
Southern Command Assistant Commissioner of Police Allan Kundi has been directed to carry out the investigation into the allegations.
Kundi’s team is in Popondetta and will spend the next 21 days investigating the allegations against Gerari.
The office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations clarified that Gerari’s suspension was not in any way related to the recent landowner and developer issue at Wanigela, Collinwood Bay.
