Top cops graduate from institute

ASSISTANT Police Commissioner for human resource Sylvester Kalaut and head of logistics Tony Dewang graduated with diplomas in economic policy analysis from the Papua New Guinea National Research Institute (PNGNRI) in Port Moresby.
“I really wanted to understand the policies surrounding this country in a wider concept, in a wider picture and after attending this programme it has really opened up my mind,” Kalaut said at the graduation ceremony on Friday.
“As a policeman I don’t have any idea about economics but it really opened up my mind as to how the economy of this country functions or of any other economies in the world.
“The basic principles are the same.
“I also want to recommend politicians to attend this programme as it will open their minds and they will see pathways to develop this country,” he said.
With keen interest in gaining better understanding of key policies, a total of 49 participants undertook the economic policy analysis course over eight weeks and graduated with diplomas.
The course offered a rewarding and enriching opportunity for the participants to gain knowledge and better understanding of and insights into major economic and public policies that impact development in the country.
Areas covered include: development planning, fiscal and monetary policies, land and natural resource development, markets and competition, and international trade.
An important requirement of the training was to write a policy paper. on issues of national importance.
