SENIOR police officers in the country have undergone a control and command course in Lae sponsored by their Australian counterparts.
The command, control and coordination workshop was to educate the officers about their every day work and how to command and control major events.
It teaches officers to take command and control of situations and coordinate them in an appropriate manner.
Acting deputy commissioner of police administration Jim Wan said such courses would enable them to plan and coordinate major events without much fuss.
He said they were part of the international community in policing and they had witnessed changes.
He said the course would help them take charge of such situations in the country.
“Technology has changed dramatically and this has influenced people’s ideas and mentality,’’ he said.
“We need to change our mind and attitude to adapt those changes that are taking shape so that we excel in policing.”
Acting Assistant Commissioner and Mamose commander Allan Kundi told his officers that although they were under-funded and there was an acute shortage of resources and logistics, they must apply the methods learnt.
Course manager Insp Paul Bai said senior officers were taught how to plan and take control of major events like disasters, crowd control and the national elections.
He said the election was one of the most important national events.
A similar course was held in Port Moresby early last month, targeting provincial police commanders, metropolitan commanders and directors.
