Top five in Pom men’s softball set

THE spots for the top five teams in the Port Moresby men’s softball association competition remain unchanged, following some outstanding display by bottom teams yesterday to mark the last games of the season.
The victory by lowly-rated Defence had denied Dolphins from making the top five with a shocking 8-6 victory.
It was a fitting finish for skipper Danny Mong and his coach Douglas Paak to register a victory.
Dolphins skipper Tony William should hold himself responsible for the loss when the game was already in the bag 6-3 at the bottom of the third.
However, midway through the fifth inning, Tony replaced Parom which saw five runners coming home to seal the match for Defence 8-6.
The final five teams are PNG Power 29, Brothers 28, Gazelle 27, Mantarays 21, Bears 15, Dolphins 14, Samurai 14, Brown Eagles 13, Kopex 10 and  Defence nine.
The defending premiers, PNG Power claimed the minor premiership after thrashing Samurai 9-0.
Samurai had no answers to the Tovia brothers, Isikiel Jr and Demas combination, at pitching and short-stop, claiming the scalp of their opponents.
Brown Eagles bowed out of the premiership race by beating Mantarays 8-2.
The victory had little impact on Mantarays’ position in the finals.
Lae Biscuit Gazelle celebrated their new gear, courtesy of their sponsors with a 6-1 victory over Bears.
Brothers’ four home runs by Jollam Jerry (two), Dick Bart and Goodwill Baia contributed immensely to their 12-10 win before Kopex tried their best to catch up with them in the last two innings but were saved by time and game.
The side captained by Dick Bart, were hoping for Samurai to beat PNG Power to claim the minor premiership but it did not turn out  to expectation.
