THE 2014 police commissioners conference will be held in Madang with the modernisation programme high on the agenda.

Spokesman David Terry said Police Commissioner Tom Kulunga would hear presentations from provincial and divisional commanders on their plans to improve performance.

Terry said the Government’s funding of K286 million for the programme over a five-year period had been put to good use.

Work to upgrade the Bomana Police Training College to a centre of excellence has already commenced.

Construction of five double duplex buildings in Jiwaka has been completed with three similar type buildings to be built at Kimininga, in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands.

Madang will provide recruits next year with accommodation in Siar.

The condemned building at the back of the Jomba police station will be replaced by a single barracks.

There will also be the re-fleeting of vehicles in the provinces.

Recruitment increase as per the government’s directive will also be on the agenda.
