THE Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) while being affected by financial and other challenges managed to achieve some outstanding results nationally and internationally, says Commander Major–Gen Gilbert Toropo.
At the Chief of Defence Force annual parade in Port Moresby on Friday, he commended all ranks and bilateral partners for their dedication and commitment throughout the year.
He said the PNGDF’s theme for this year was to “reconstitute through courageous leadership”.
Unfortunately the force did not achieve that level of change.
Toropo said at times on the operational front, the force was pushed to provide land borders security and were deployed without adequate logistics and support for operations.
“I am extremely proud of the commitment, dedication and service of the vast majority of the force who rose to the challenges and are still doing so in spite of all the issues,” he said.
“I wish to thank you for your resilience and continued commitment to service in open, inhospitable conditions and that of the leadership of those who planned, supported and led the respective deployments.
“Your hard work is both noted and commanded.”
Toropo also highlighted a list of activities achieved through operational front operations, multinational activities, regional exercises, sporting events and magnificent performances by the force’s military band.
He said that the PNGDF also continued to develop their reporting and governance process, and delivered their new defence doctrine publication and had assisted the defence department in the drafting of PNG’s strategic defence policy statement.
