Toropo: School to benefit country
The National, Monday February 15th, 2016
PNG Defence Force commander Brigadier General Gilbert Toropo lauded the Government’s direction to reopen the Joint Services College for the benefit of the three disciplinary forces.
Toropo was joined by Police commissioner Gari Baki and Correctional Services commissioner Michael Waipo to witness the launching of the JSC at Igam Barracks in Lae, Morobe last Thursday.
He said the JSC will benefit the whole country through the contribution by graduates from the college.
Toropo said the JSC would improve the leadership, command and control aspects of the disciplinary forces.
“And I think the Government has realised the importance of having the three disciplinary forces, especially in the area of command and control leadership element, to go a through joint training institution.
“As you all know, PNG is hosting a major event in Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in 2018 and if we are not properly prepared, we will not effectively deliver the security cover required by our people and our Government,” Toropo said.
He said the move by the Government to reactivate the JSC was a welcome news for the three disciplinary forces.
“As Morobe Governor Kelly Naru has mentioned, the quality of leadership put in by those who have gone through this college in the current police commissioner and the current and former CIS commissioners is a testament of what this college can produce.”
