Total has earthquake covered in building plans for LNG project

TOTAL E&P PNG Limited managing director Philippe Blanchard says the recent earthquake has been taken into consideration during the planned construction of the Papua LNG facilities.
He said the earthquake has not affected any of the licensed areas in which Total operates in but the company is ready to help out if needed to.
“We have followed what happened with the earthquake and nothing has happened in the areas where Total is operating,” Blanchard said. “But we said to the government and other partner operators that we remain available if needed and are pleased to help.
“What happened with the earthquake is not new to us and we knew when coming into PNG where seismic activities were important and have to take into account.
“The earthquake issue is something that we have in mind. We are assessing that risk and preparing for it with the right foundation to be sure that if an earthquake occurred we will be in good shape and the facility will not suffer.”
He said the initial Papua LNG design concept remained unchanged with works being done to identify avenues to maximise efficiencies.
“Today, the project has not changed and the concept is the same. What we have done is optimise and progress the project definition.”
