Toti extend lead as other teams unable to face off
TWO National Soccer League (NSL) round 10 matches were not played over the weekend.
Besta PNG United’s clash against FC Momase in Lae and the Southern Strikers’ tie with Buang FC in Port Moresby did not take place.
The only NSL fixture that took place was the game between defending champions Toti City FC and FC Morobe Wawens which Toti won 4-2.
NSL manager Leslie Babaga could not be reached yesterday for comments on the matches.
It is understood the matches will add to the tally of five wash-out matches to be played.
FC Momase manager Simon Koima said they had some management issues which caused them to forgo their match.
Unable to further detail the issues, Koima said he requested for their games to be wash-out matches.
“Last week (two weeks ago), we did not play as well because I, as the manager, decided to call the game off and this (last) weekend as well,” Koima said.
Meanwhile, Toti continued their winning streak with their victory over the Wawens.
City were first on the score sheet following a penalty goal by Nigel Dabinyaba in the 17th minute.
Toti extended their lead 10 minutes later when captain Raymond Gunemba curled the ball into the net from a corner kick.
The Wawens, undeterred by the scoreline, kept applying pressure and were rewarded with a goal to Jason Farrock before halftime.
Toti responded as the second half got underway, extending their lead to 3-1 through Gunemba.
Determined to stay in contest, Farrock belted the ball past Toti goalkeeper Ronald Warisan, giving the Wawens their second goal.
The game seesawed until a cross from Gunemba found Dabinyaba who sealed the match with Toti’s fourth goal.
