PAPUA New Guinea athlete Eldan Toti retained his titles in the high and long jump during the PNG Air Grand Prix Series in Kimbe, West New Britain, last weekend.
The Nest athletics club member surpassed the efforts of fellow high jumpers Karo Iga (1.85 metres) and Isaac Kambuka (1.80m) with a mark of 1.88m. “It was a good contest,” Toti said.
“I am happy that they gave me good competition in high and long jumps.
“Despite the results, I am continuing to train for this weekend’s national championships.” The East New Briton said he was aiming for spot to represent PNG again in upcoming international meets, including next year’s Commonwealth Games and the 2023 Pacific Games.
“The Grand Prix and national championships are part of my preparations to qualify for the Commonwealth Games,” Toti said.
“I’m not taking these two events lightly because they are part of my training.
“My goal is to finish first again in the national championships.
“ I’ll step up my training leading up to the selections for the Commonwealth Games.”
The 27-year-old, from Vunapalading, is upbeat about this weekend as he aims to defend his high and long jump titles.
