A TOTAL of 49 teams are in the second Toti Invitational soccer tournament at Lae Football Association (LFA) Park and Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium with players vying for a spot in the Lae City squad for 2021 season.
The five-day tournament will finish with the finals on Sunday.
Match commissioner Alex Toki told The National that the tournament started late on Wednesday due to technical issues.
He said the teams that did not play on day one, did yesterday with Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium hosting some matches.
“For the outstanding games, we’ll look into in the duration of the tournament as groundsmen are working on the Scout Oval where we’ll host some matches to make up for lost time,” Toki said.
He said the teams were put into eight pools with sides coming from outside provinces.
“East Sepik sent four teams – Mud Skippers, Sombo Yangoru Saussia Team One and Two, and Wullet from Turubu — and Madang fielded Gauns and Jets,” Toki said.
“For Morobe teams, we have 12 from Huon Gulf, four from Markham, four from Nawaeb, two from Finschhafen and one from Kabwum while the rest are from Lae.”
