Tough clash on cards
SUNDAY’S Round 11 fixture against the Central Queensland Capras at Browne Park, Rockhampton, will not be a formality for the Papua New Guinea Hunters.
If anything this is a danger game for Michael Marum’s men after a solid 20-2-18 win over the Redcliffe Dolphins in Round 9, the South Pacific Brewery-backed side has had two weekends of relative peace and come with the representative round followed by a spell in Round 10, complacency could be a problem.
The Hunters travel to Brisbane today and then bus up to “Rocky” on a six-and-half-hour road trip and have a day to freshen up for Sunday afternoon’s game.
One positive for the Hunters is the buzz most of the side are on from the Kumuls 24-22 Test win over Fiji a fortnight ago.
That coupled with the side’s aim of making the finals for a second year should be able to spur co-captains Noel Zeming and Adam Korave to lead the side to victory against an enthusiastic Capras outfit which could feature former Agmark Gurias player Lance Kuveu, who has been named in their 22.
Fixtures: Rd 11 – Sat, May 21: Jets v Tigers, Blackhawks v Cutters, Pride v Bears; Sun, May 22: Capras v Hunters, Dolphins v Devils, TH Seagulls v Wm Seagulls, Falcons v Magpies.
