Tournament ends with teams sharing K17,500

THE MP John Simon-sponsored volleyball and soccer tournaments in Maprik, East Sepik, ended last week with 16 teams across two sports sharing a total of K17,500 worth of prize money.
The tournaments were part of the district authority’s 45th Independence celebrations with the finals and a presentation held at the Maprik Sports Field on Thursday.
The men’s soccer final saw Maprik Secondary School finish first while Tamawi Blues were runners-up.
Mamu Hese and Urban Whites finished third and fourth respectively.
In the women’s final, YST Blues finished first while Cousins, Team Maprik and Urban Green bagged second, third and fourth respectively.
The men’s volleyball title was awarded to Team Duwes after they edged Cassowaries in the final while DMS and Team Sagi finished third and fourth respectively.
In the women’s final, Eagles were named winners after they defeated JJ Pirates while MP Reds secured third place after edging EM Sisters.
The tournament was among a number of activities planned to help bring people together to celebrate Independence with prize monies for the top-four sides.
