The US Embassy in Port Moresby has announced that its cultural assistant Lazarus Towa will represent Papua New Guinea at this week’s Commonwealth Youth Forum in London, England.
Towa is being recognised for his volunteer work through his Facebook page called Current Job Vacancies Repost With LT which has up to 68,000 followers and has helped at least 200 people find employment in PNG, a statement from the embassy said.
“Reaching the unreached and touching the untouched is what I aim for,” he said.
Towa’s motivation comes from hundreds of people who have contacted him directly and indirectly to confirm they have found employment with his assistance.
He said he started his efforts after completing university when he noticed that many of his colleagues were trying to find suitable employment.
To help them, he provided job seekers with tips on how to write a curriculum vita and in many instances offering photocopying and printing services as well.
His efforts in helping thousands seek employment has earned him recognition by the UN and now the Commonwealth Youth Forum.
