THE small township of Kundiawa is changing, slowly but surely, under new management.
Once a filthy town, it is now giving visitors a good impression.
New mayor Wapia Kuglame and his administration manager Alex Albert initiated a clean-up exercise and provided other services, such as a new bus stop at the hospital, new rubbish bins in commercial and residential areas, rubbish collection and grass-cutting in residential zones.
Kuglame said garbage collection was a “very challenging job”.
“I need two dump trucks to pick up rubbish at the commercial centre as well as at residential areas,” he said.
He said the truck being used was donated by the late Joe Mek Teine, the MP for Kundiawa/Gembogl in 2008, and it was old and troublesome now.
“Kundiawa is the provincial headquarters and I think that all the six MPs and governor must assist me to buy a new dump truck to keep our town always clean.”
He urged people not to throw rubbish in town.
