AN ALCOHOL ban has been imposed in Bulolo, Morobe, from this month for an indefinite period – until law and order is under control.

Alcohol has contributed much to the growing social and law and order problems which have resulted in the loss of lives, destruction of properties and disruption to business activities in the town, a crowd was told.

Bulolo law and order chairman Tim Yotong told the gathering at the instalment of pastors and leaders at Amalgamated Local Church (ALC) last Thursday, that liquor was to blame for the law and order problems which had crippled the town in the past few years.

“We have experienced seven major ethnic clashes in Bulolo over the past 10 years which resulted in the loss of lives and destruction to properties, and we haven’t resolved any of these ethnic problems,” Yotong told the pastors.

He said the law and order committee had agreed to ban liquor in Bulolo for an indefinite period as it was the cause of all the problems inn the district.

“The law and order committee has been formed to shoulder the responsibility to ensure peace and normalcy are restored in Bulolo,” he said.

Police will be setting up road blocks and checking all vehicles travelling in and out of Bulolo for liquor.
