Town treats tourists well

THE Madang Tourism Services and people of Madang put on a brilliant and colourful welcome for tourists on the cruise liner mv Silver Whisperer last Sunday.
The six-star cruise liner berthed at 8am at the main wharf. Buses took some tourists for sightseeing at the Madang Visitors Cultural Bureau and Bilbil village.
Others opted to take a harbour cruise, visiting Krangket and neighbouring island villages and stopping at Pik Island for a quick dip.
The fish market came alive as students from the Divine Word University entertained the tourists.
Shore concierge manager Erich Krammer said he could not thank Sir Peter Barter enough for the wonderful cultural display.
“I want to thank Madang and PNG for the hospitality and hope to come back,” he said.
Jonathan Shade, the American night entertainer on board, said: “This is an absolutely amazing event where cultural native performances are done in one place at one time.
“The vibrancy and colour is amazing. The people on board this vessel are retired wealthy people from all professions who have spent one month out at sea. They have not experienced anything like this since the trip began in Los Angeles.”
The World Cruise 2014 began in LA on January 6 and will end in Barcelona, Spain on April 3.
So far they have been to Hawaii, Tonga, Australia, New Zealand and PNG.
