TPA should take more responsibility
The National, Monday 27th Febuary 2012
PETER Vincent, CEO of the Tourism Promotion Authority, should take the blame for the recent predicament involving the robbing of tourists in Port Moresby.
It is unfortunate he does not listen to ideas.
He may blame the government and the law all he likes. But who is the chief host of PNG who meets and greets tourists when they step onto our shores?
Is it not the person who is charged by the government with the task of promoting the coun-try’s tourism industry?
Is Vincent not the boss of tourism?
He has failed and embarrassed Papua New Guineans.
If I were him, I would make necessary provisions from my annual budget submissions for extra security fundings to look after our guests when they come to our shores en masse.
What do we say to people who want to visit PNG now?
In the future, the concept of “tourism police” should be considered.
This is implemented in some countries around the world to protect and promote tourism and as a result, they enjoy a vibrant tourism industry.
