The National, Wednesday March 2nd, 2016
A LANDSLIDE that cut off road to interior Gembogl in upper Chimbu, including Mt Wilhelm, the country’s highest mountain, was cleared and traffic flow resumed this week.
The Koglainigle hillside landslide of several kilometres in length and about one kilometre in width was re-opened by Kundiawa-Gembogl MP Tobias Kulang and Chimbu Governor Noah Kool on Sunday.
Kulang applauded the speedy response to the landslide by the Government and Chimbu provincial government to provide relief supplies and assistance to the people affected.
He thanked Kool for providing roofing iron to victims to build permanent homes and also Sinasina-Yongumugl MP Kerenga Kua for delivering relief supplies.
Kulang and district chief executive officer Gand Mond were the first to support the victims and displaced families with food supplies, blankets, utensils and other necessities the day after the landslide.
Kulang thanked the victims for allowing the people of the interior Gembogl, Sambugla and Kamaneku to continue to cross over the debris to get on waiting vehicles on either side of the landslide area.
