Traffic resumes at Nipa section of highway

TRAFFIC flow at the Nipa section of the Highlands Highway in Southern Highlands returned to normal on Monday, provincial police commander Chief Supt Martin Lakari said.
He said police in Nipa confirmed that traffic was back flowing through with trucks and vehicles doing normal service.
Lakari said police were doing their normal patrols to make sure criminal activities were kept at bay.
“I can confirm that this section of the road normally faces the same problem (slippery) during wet seasons,” he said.
Lakari commended locals living along that section of the road at Komea village for respecting others and properties.
He said the highway from Mendi to Tari was peaceful.
Former chief executive officer of the Nipa- Kutubu electorate Robin Pip said they would face the same problems during wet seasons and Works Department needed to do proper maintenance.
Meanwhile, traffic from Southern Highlands and Hela was affected on Sunday because of heavy rains experienced in the province causing slips.

  • This country heavily relies on the LNG project at end if this highway. Upgrading and Sealing of this should be immediate. Travellers along this road need to travel free from all forms of oppression, suppression and depression. 40 years on and Southern Highlands and Hela need complete overhaul in their provincial government budget priorities with Oil Gas developers.
