Tragedies can be prevented

TWO articles that appeared in the daily newspapers recently made me almost shed tears. The first one was a shocking front page news about three innocent children being burnt in their house at Hohola in the nation’s capital city and the other was about churches being torn down by government officials in Ache province of Indonesia. In Port Moresby a stupid mother locked her children in their house and they met their deaths in very unfortunate circumstances. The mother should be locked away in jail for a long time. She does not deserve any sympathy from anyone. The reason given that the door of the house was chained and locked so they could not be rescued is unacceptable; was there any attempt to break the walls down to rescue the kids? Why is that most of such incidents we hear of are caused by people from one particular region? Children are not animals to be locked away and left alone. In relation to the churches being torn down, I ask all Christians and others in this country to pray for understanding from government agencies in Indonesia to maintain tolerance as it has been in that country for a long time.
