AN intense two-week training involving senior staff and business managers of Water PNG is being held their training centre in Panim, says principle training officer John Davani.
He says the training is a first for non-water operators and the programme would be further developed into block courses of two-three days focused on separate aspects fort the current course.
The contents of the course includes sources of water, reservoir and intake structure, coagulation and flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection, PNG drinking water quality guidelines, simple water tests (lab procedures) and occupational health and safety.
“This course is very important as it equips you with further skills and knowledge to address water quality issues and to better serve customers amid fast rising demand for water services,” Davani says.
The training follows other courses conducted by principle water quality officer John Nokup.
Nokup said there was no recognised training centre for water operators in the country following their disassociation from the Department of Works.
“When the organisation started operating on its own, the assets for the training centre remained with works and over time ceased to function effectively”, Nokup said.
