Training soldiers and police officers

Letters

TO add to The National’s editorial opinion on Friday, there is no better way to address the issue of police recruitment.
The government should initiate a four-year programme.
Our universities should have a four-year programme for both the police and the defence force like in any other field or profession.
The abuse of law by members of the police and defence force, the very people who should be upholding the law, shows their lack of skills, knowledge, discipline and ethical approaches to the profession itself.
Let’s not cheapen these professions by recruiting people who are only interested in getting a job, a fortnightly pay, free accommodation, etc.
Let’s recruit Papua New Guineans who have the passion to uphold the law and protect the country and its people, and serve the country, communities and families.
