Transfer window weakens teams: Sakette

PORT Moresby City coach Frederica Sakette has raised concerns over the integrity of the Women’s National Soccer League (WNSL) following last month’s transfer window.
She claimed the window created an imbalance in competitiveness with the poaching of top players causing clubs to re-strategise.
Sakette said after her side’s 1-5 loss to Genesis that it was too early for a window with teams yet to establish themselves in the inaugural season.
“For me, the window didn’t do any good for us,” she said.
“As a coach, I don’t like the idea because teams just pick the best players from other sides who are left to struggle.
“We struggled because our best players had moved to Genesis.
“We’re trying our best to keep pace with the top sides.
“But for now, we’re trying to motivate our younger players to step up.
“We’re trying to compete but when you have your best players joining other clubs, you struggle and instead of going forward, we’re back at square one.
“The strong teams are getting stronger and the weak teams are not competitive at all, so for a team to concede 19 goals is not good.
“This result was expected, they’ve got all the best players and it’s really difficult to score against them.
“But we tried our best and Genesis were the better side.”
Sakette said it would be better to introduce the window once all the WNSL teams were competitive.
