AUTONOMOUS Bougainville Government President Dr John Momis has urged new Chief Secretary Joe Nobetau to shake up the public service.
During Nobetau’s swearing-in ceremony at the Bougainville administrative office complex, Momis told him to transform the public service into an efficient entity that will carry out government prerogatives as it moves towards the referendum.
“We have to energise ourselves and others through heroic ambition. There is no time to mess around. We have to lift the benchmark of the performance of the Bougainville public service machinery,” Momis said.
“We will not only find solutions to our problems but also find fulfilment – a holistic approach to development and holistic strategy to development will deliver a good outcome.”
He said there were so many positive things happening in Bougainville but the people were not aware of what was happening.
He encouraged public servants to be more proactive in informing the people of changes happening on Bougainville.
“Despite our frustrations, the Bougainville peace agreement is a document that gives the people of Bougainville the right to determine their future,” he said.
“This will create the qualitative change that will engage every Bougainvillean. The leadership must be taken by the political and bureaucratic leaders so that the whole population will feel and know that they are part of this great collaborative leadership that will forge the best for future generations.”
