ELECTORAL Commissioner Andrew Trawen said yesterday recounting of ballot papers could only take place following the completion of counting of the primary votes.
Trawen made the clarification following calls by candidates for recounts while counting of primary votes were in progress.“Under the organic law on national and local-level government elections, recounts are provided for only after the primary count has been completed,” Trawen said.
“Recounts cannot be considered when counting of primary votes were in progress.”
Trawen explained that following completion of counting of primary votes, quality checks are carried out and following due diligence by returning officers, recounts are considered accordingly.
