Trawen urges parties, candidates to observe amended dates
The National, Tuesday 17th April 2012
POLITICAL parties and candidates for the national election should take note of the amended dates and fees for registration and nomination.
Electoral Commissioner Andrew Trawen said the amended dates for the issue of writs and close of nominations were Friday May 18, 2012 (4pm) and Thursday May 24, 2012 (4pm).
The national parliamentary nomination fee is K1,000.
He urges candidates and political parties to pay their nomination fees after the issue of the election writs and before the closure of nominations as determined by the commission.
Trawen said candidates and political parties were required to provide original receipts and nominations forms to the returning officer or assistant returning officer in their electorates.
The documents must contain the:
l Date of receipt when payment made;
l Full name of the candidate and/or political party;
l Full name of the electorate being contested;
l Full amount of fees in words and figures.
Deposit slips and nominations forms can be obtained from election managers or returning officers in their electorate or the head office in Port Moresby.
Nomination fee should be paid to the commission’s nominated trust account at any Bank South Pacific branch.
