Treasury department improves efficiency

DEPUTY Prime Minister and Treasurer Charles Abel says the Treasury Department is improving its efficiency to ensure budgets presented by provincial government are processed quickly for actual implementation.
Abel said one of the difficulties currently being experienced by the department was assessing and vetting budgets that were submitted online by provincial governments that had installed the Integrated Financial Management System or IFMS.
“That is the only issue that we are facing and we are working in consultation with the Finance Department to address it,” he said.
“Other provincial governments that submitted manually, we are looking at having them vetted and approved in less than three days or so.”
Abel said most provincial governments had submitted their budgets, except for National Capital District, Central and Oro (Northern).
“We hope that they submit this week as we are looking at using the last week (of Feb) to go through them, and have all provincial government budgets approved by the end of Feb 2019 so that they can go ahead and implement their programmes.”
